GROSSE FREIHEIT 36
"Große Freiheit 36", shares its importance of this location with just how many legendary concerts have taken place there whether from David Bowie, Neil Young, Prince, Björk, Coldplay or Placebo, Nick Cave and The Pixies, the club has been where most of the important international acts have performed when in Hamburg. Before the Second World War the building was home to the Hippodrome which you can still see today in Hans Albers film Große Freiheit Nr. 7, it was an entertainment venue that even hosted performances featuring horses. In 1944 the building was destroyed and after reconstruction became the Colibri strip club for a long time but in its cellar was the Kaiserkeller which remains today and is one of the iconic venues the Beatles played regularly during their Hamburg period.
